Philosophy of Acupuncture
I value the reputation of Acupuncture and of my practice. I will not treat you for the sake of treating you. I will take responsibility for your health. I view working with you as a health partnership.
Availability
I offer my knowledge and availability by phone, text and e-mail for any questions you have throughout treatment.
Will it work?
Yes it does.
Acupuncture has been around for certainly 2000 years and may be as old as 5000 years. There is a vast array of knowledge in Chinese medicine some of which has still to be translated from the original texts. Western Medicine is starting to put serious time into researching a branch of medicine which runs along side Western Medical techniques in China.
As with any system of medicine Acupuncture has things it is suited to treating and things which it does not do so well at. Acupuncture is very good at treating the whole body.
As much as we understand it, Acupuncture works via the central nervous system. It can promote or inhibit chemicals being released by the body and stimulate healing from within.
What about needles - Won't they hurt?
Acupuncture needles are not what you might expect. They are very fine about the width of a human hair, not at all like the needles for blood tests or injections you may have had at the doctors. Patients most often describe the sensation as the needles go in as a dull ache. You may not feel some of the needles at all, depending on the condition you are treated for and where the needle is. Some patients describe tingling or small electric tingles
running towards or away from the needle. This would agree with our understanding of Acupuncture. We believe it stimulates the nervous system which runs through the body as electricity just beneath the skin.

What's new?
There are some very exciting things going on in the acupuncture world at the moment. Western medicine is seriously looking at what acupuncture has to offer and what amazing things it can treat. I am having particular success with Infertility (with two sets of twins and many other babies born in the last year) following acupuncture treatment with and without IVF for previously infertile couples. This is now backed up by BMJ research showing acupuncture increasing the chances of pregnancy via IVF by 65% !!!
Western medicine has been aware for some time of the pain control benefits of Acupuncture. Many pain clinics now use acupuncture as an alternative to drugs, some of which have difficult to manage side effects.
Treatment for addiction is also receiving a lot of attention. Clinics are now becoming available in NHS Trusts. They are having amazing results with long term addiction, from alcohol and cigarettes through to long term use of prescription medicines and even class A drugs.
Asthma is what I had before I found out about acupuncture. I had asthma from my young childhood. When it got worse whilst I was at University a friend recommended acupuncture and I was amazed at how it helped me. A couple of years later I went back to University to study acupuncture and make it my vocation.
Hayfever season is now in full swing. For anyone thinking of getting rid of this miserable problem then now is the time to start. Acupuncture is a very effective treatment for hayfever and other allergies. Over time it can even sometimes remove the need for daily medication completely.
In fact the number of things acupuncture can treat never ceases to amaze my patients. Acupuncture is well known for its treatment of pain, what is not so well known for is its treatment of a whole range of medical conditions, some of which are difficult to treat in other ways or lead to unwanted and troublesome side effects. Back pain costs the economy millions of pounds a year in lost work days, but many people use acupuncture and other alternative medical treatments to heal the body when problems occur. Joint Pain like Tennis Elbow, Arthritis, Frozen Shoulder, Stiff Neck and Sports Injuries can also be helped with acupuncture. Some conditions can be completely cured, whilst others are slowed from progressing. Pain relief and reduction of inflammation from acupuncture treatment can give huge improvement to quality of life from these types of conditions.
Eczema, Psoriasis and other skin rashes or conditions can be treated with acupuncture. Not only can sore inflamed red skin be dramatically reduced but also the speed at which the affected areas heal can be increased giving relief from these painful conditions.
Medical conditions such as Migraine, High Blood Pressure, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), M.E., PMS / Period Pain, Reoccurring Colds and Chest Infections are also commonly treated with acupuncture. symptoms can quickly be reduced and as the body is treated to make it stronger. Acupuncture aims to strengthen your immune system to help you back to health. When you get better you are less likely to
suffer a reoccurrence as your energy is stronger.
Finally, I have been using acupuncture to fight the signs of aging for some of my patients. Facial Enhancement Acupuncture is not new in fact it has probably been around for over a thousand years. Recently this treatment has been rediscovered and refined. Fine lines can be removed and deeper creases can be lessened with an overall tightening feeling to the skin. Also as the body is not injured like conventional western cosmetic surgery so healing
time is negligible.
